Yoga has been defined as a healing system of theory and practice. It is a combination of breathing exercises, physical postures, and meditation that has been practised for more than 5,000 years. To define Yoga is a lot like defining the wind. Understanding can come more from experiencing the effects rather than trying to find a concrete definition. Beyond describing the mental, physical, and spiritual effects of Yoga, the best way to really know “Yoga” is to experience it for yourself.

Vinyasa – Is a term that covers a broad range of yoga classes. The word Vinyasa means “breath-synchronized movement.” In other words, the teacher will instruct you to move from one pose to the next on an inhale or an exhale. This technique is sometimes also called Vinyasa Flow, or just Flow because of the smooth way that the poses run together and can be quite challenging at advanced levels. Vinyasa poses stretch and align the body, promoting balance and flexibility.
Hatha – With ha meaning “sun” and tha meaning “moon” Hatha Yoga is commonly translated as the Yoga that brings union “of the pairs of opposites.” It concentrates on physical health and mental well-being. Hatha Yoga uses bodily postures (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama), and meditation (dyana) with the goal of bringing about a sound, healthy body and a clear, peaceful mind which work to make the spine supple and to promote circulation in all the organs, glands, and tissues.
Iyengar – Is a method of Yoga that is initially learnt through the in-depth study of asanas (posture) and pranayama (breath control). In practice Iyengar yoga focuses particularly on three aspects. Correct body alignment allows the body to develop harmoniously in an anatomically correct way so that the student suffers no injury or pain when practising correctly. As all bodies are different and people have different weaknesses and strengths. The use of like wooden blocks, chairs, blankets and belts that help one adjust or support oneself in the different postures so that one can work in a range of motion that is safe and effective.
